Summer Lunch Program

As a church of the Cocalico School District, our Pastor participates in (and currently is the facilitator/Chairperson) of the Cocalico Ministerium. The Ministerium is the collective gathering of the pastors and leaders of churches and ministries in the school district. The group gathers once a month to pray for each other and each other's churches, to hear updates on what's happening in our local churches and ministries and learning of opportunities to partner, serve, and work together to address needs within the school district community.

The ministerium has a fund used for the discretionary purposes of assisting people in need in the community. The Ministerium works directly with REAL Life Services in Denver and their Social Worker in financially assisting with rent, fuel, gas, lodging, etc. needs as people work through challenges and struggles in life. Our Mission donations to Cocalico Ministerium go toward this fund and the efforts to help alleviate anxieties and pressures related to financial problems.

The Ministerium also works with the school district food services program to provide Acts of Love Summer Lunches. Various churches coordinate to provide bag breakfasts and lunches for students of the district who might most need and value such food supplies.

The Summer Meals will be distributed on June 26 at noon, July 18 at 1:30pm and August 4 at 10am at Adamstown Grove. Online Sign-ups for packing and transport/distribution will be forth coming.

Good Samaritan Services

Providing a full continuum of care to families and individuals experiencing homelessness in the Lancaster and Chester County regions with programs in Ephrata to provide homeless women, children and men throughout the year. They also provide an emergency winter shelter in Ephrata during the winter months.

Sunday, February 5 we hear from Janessa Cline from Good Samaritan in Ephrata sharing a mission moment with us updating us on recent activities with Good Samaritan.

Bethany children's Home

A specialized program for youth to have access to a variety of therapeutic, spiritual, and cultural services in addition to recreational activities. Youth reside on campus in one of our historic cottages with a family comprised of house parents, support staff and resident advisors.. Homes of Hope Services

Homes of Hope is a transformation ministry. Love INC of Lancaster County developed Homes of Hope, a unique transformational ministry that has further blossomed around the country. Through specific partnerships of five to seven churches in a school district, a family experiencing homelessness, is brought into a home setting for six to nine months for nurturing, coaching, and intentional training. Volunteers who are gifted and willing to be trained as budget coaches, mentors, and committee members serve together and a family's life is not only rescued, but transformed in the name of Christ.

REAL Life Community Services

REAL Life Community Services connects the community to Hope through partnerships, collaborations, and building relationships. With the area’s only full time social work department, we help those who are struggling to provide the basic needs for their families in northern Lancaster County. We offer casework, helping those in need to navigate life hand in hand, directing them to the programs we offer and other resources that are available for their specific circumstances. Our programs are open to all, but specifically developed to meet the needs we see in the Cocalico School District.

United Church of Christ - UCC Homes

UCC Homes

The Penn Central Conference based ministry of six retirement and nursing homes, (i.e. Ephrata Manor) helps senior citizens to have a secure place to live in a retirement community. Services include cottages, apartments, assisted living (personal care), skilled care (nursing Care), and rehabilitation services. St. John's also provides gift cards and donations for Christmas gifts for residents.

United Church of Christ (UCC) Connection

UCC Connections

St. Johns UCC is a church within the larger denomination of the United Church of Christ (UCC). We are connected with the other UCC churches of Lancaster County, as we connect together as the Lancaster Association of the United Church of Christ, addressing issues and concerns within the Lancaster City and County area. We are also part of the Penn Central Conference of the United Church of Christ, this comprises the UCC churches of the Central PA area. The Association meets twice a year with the pastors of its churches and delegates of the congregations gathering for support, worship, information, and ministry. The Penn Central Conference gathers a s a whole annually with, again, each church pastor and delegate representation.

Our UCC Connection also extends to the Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster. This is an historically UCC founded and endorsed school for higher learning in the area of theology and pastoral preparation and education. Many of our church's pastors (including Pastor Brad) have received their education and training and Masters of Divinity degree from LTS.

Your gifts to UCC Connections go toward these ministries that keep us connected to our denomination background and history and remind us that we are more than one church in one community, but part of a larger entity beyond just ourselves.

Summer Lunch Program

St. Johns will work with St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Denver to distribute the lunches at the Denver, Reinholds, and Adamstown Parks on Monday June 20 and Wednesday June 22. If you can help with this, please let Pastor Brad or Bob Kadlubowski know of your availability.
